my week in objects (mostly).

April 20, 2018

five little things that made my week.

1. these tulips.
{did you know tulips are one of few cut flowers that keep growing after being cut? also, they just get prettier and prettier as they age.}

2. these covered books.

{cause sometimes you can dig red book covers and sometimes you can’t.}

3. this peppermint.

{because unlike the basil (heh), it’s still doing A-OK.}

4. these kiddo drawers.
{because they were crammed with things that didn’t fit or were otherwise worn to threads. so much better now.}

5. these books.

{’cause i’m giving three of ’em away right this way.}

other things:

black mothers and babies are dying in america.

organic, crinkled, minimalist (sounds familiar).

style is an algorithm?

build a boat.

blush (and bashful).

warmblooded.

osage and orange.

my hair got…bumpy. you?

    Yes to tulips! Do you have any recommendations for how to keep them semi-upright as they grow? I had a vase of them recently, and they went all topsy-turvy on me.

      Yeah! They do go topsy turvy as they grow post-cut, but I admit I kind of like their swooning! Some folks swear by putting a penny in the water, others poke a needle through the top of the stem near the flower. I’ve tried them both but never noticed a particular improvement. The best advice I have is giving them a fresh trim and fresh water after a day or two (or every day if you’re very on top of it;)

        Thanks so much! I sort of liked the swooning too, until they all swooned their way facing down toward the table. Maybe next time I’ll try a different vessel for them; perhaps that might make a difference too. Thanks again!

    Thank you so much for the link to Warmblooded. It’s the kind of work that makes me mourn “What the heck have been doing with my illustration work” but in the best possible way. So lovely.

    Wait! Tell me more about your bumpy hair. Mine is …bumpy lately and I can’t figure out why! (Not pregnant.)

      Ha! My hair just got a whole lot more…body?…after I had kids. I first noticed my “bump” when Faye was around 10 months old. It was a wave in the back of my hair that felt like I’d been wearing a pony tail all day, but I hadn’t! Ever since, my lifetime of stick straight hair has been a thing of the past!

    There is a certain red book that lives in our house that drives me mad! (Meanwhile, my husband doesn’t understand what the fuss is about) I should cover it–brilliant idea! Thanks for sharing.

    YOUR HAIR GOT BUMPY TOO??? The four inches of hair closest to my head are just, like, ridges. I just bought a straightening iron for the first time since college.
