my week in objects (mostly).

February 9, 2018

five little things that made my week.

1. this new hairbrush.

{because it’s my first new one in years and it’s tiny and it’s perfect.}

2. these earrings.

{a million years old at this point and long neglected, but they reemerged this week just because.}

3. the book on this tiny machine.

{because i asked the library to buy it and a day later, they did.}

4. this jar of rice.

{because i made a big pot of it in the morning before work and dinner prep was so much easier.}

5. these tights.

{cause i’ve been in a dress-wearing mood.}

other things:

scarf? bib? anything you want now.

my life in sourdough. via chelsea.

happy mail day.

black power book list. also!

wellness has a race problem. via rachel.

scratch ‘n sniff.

everyday. and!

    Has Chelsea’s Frolic blog moved? I loved reading it but now can’t find it anywhere.

      You know, I’m not positive myself. We’re friends on Facebook and so I spotted her recommendation there! I think she might have started fresh with this new site.

    I’d love to hear more on you prep rice! I don’t have a rice cooker and mine always seems to turn out slightly crunchy…

      Hmm, I don’t have a rice cooker either, but I don’t think I have any secrets here! Maybe just err on having more water than you need and you can always strain it if it’s cooked before the water’s absorbed?

        Jumping in here! I recently learned a lot from Anson Mills on how to cook rice, especially their delicious varieties.

      This method has never let me down! Cook like pasta, drain, return to pot and steam for 10 minutes. https://www.saveur.com/perfect-brown-rice-recipe
      If you soak the rice overnight or during the day you can cut a bit of time off the cooking, and make it more easily digested!

      I recently converted to using a pressure cooker for all types of rice. It does somewhat speed up cooking time, especially for brown rice, but even more impressively for me, the texture is consistently great.

    I love those simple earrings! Do you remember where they are from?

    I just finished reading Chasing Slow last month, one of only two books I was able to get through. I recall one night, after reading a chapter, hauling myself out of my bath and going and sitting with my kids, who were already asleep, just to be with them and appreciate having them in my life. We get so busy and harried with daily life, stuff like this gets missed. That book was a great reminder. Finally, prepping rice is one of my go-to-moves for getting meals on the table in the evening. I’ve learned that dinner preps are best done in the morning. šŸ™‚

    Oh! I’ve been wanting to read that book (after reading this AMAZING essay: http://www.powells.com/post/original-essays/the-place-of-consequence) I can only imagine the book is great too.

    The brush looks great… any suggestions for a round brush lover? Thanks šŸ™‚
