my week in objects (mostly).

January 19, 2018

five little things that made my week:

1. this gift of homemade za’atar.

{and putting it on everything.}

2. these blue silks.

{because this silks club has been pure magic for my kids (okay, and for me).}

3. this locker lock.

{because i’ve been going to the gym every day since the new year. and that’s something of a record.}

4. these mid-week leftovers.

{for hiding out in the fridge.}

5. this radiator.

{for sometimes being quiet. glass half full, etc.}

other things:

i intuitively embraced and supported other women’s anger but struggled to claim my own.

it’ll be summer one day, right?

not everything is a side hustle.

does this make me look angry?

that’s not us, we’re so clean.

in conversation.

green goddess.

under wraps.

cheese.

resist.

    I have the Resist hat on my “To knit” list for this year! She sells the pattern as well.

      Lovely! Yes: that’s a link to the pattern!

        I purchased and downloaded the pattern last week—there is a charitable donation component to each purchase. Perhaps readers of Reading My Tea Leaves would be inspired to do a knit-along? I am planning to buy @oystersandpurls organically hand dyed local yarn for the project. A beautiful intersection of hand makers and the resistance ❤️

    Oooo, I needed that “*not a side hustle” story. Thank you. Now back to my *beloved hobby…

    I begged all my friends to listen to the seeing white podcast – it was so excellent.

    Yay for you for making it to the gym every day this month! I think I commented on this on your “How to Know It’s January Post” when you first mentioned about going to the gym because I could use a little inspiration myself. I made it to the gym for one Pilates class and to use the rowing machine once…and we are now on day 19 of the month. I really shouldn’t have any excuses (no kids to wrangle, gym just down the block, etc.), but I just cannot seem to make it work, although I have every good intention. May I ask what time of day you go, what do you do (classes, machines, etc.), is they gym near home or work, how long you stay? Anything to help motivate me and get this on my schedule would be much appreciated! And this isn’t out of vanity…I really need to exercise for my mental sanity and of course the overall health benefits! P.S. Thanks to your good recommendation, I am sitting here at my desk with a cloth napkin on my lap (gone are the days of wasting paper napkins).

      I second that! We got a new membership to our incredible community & rec center (less than a mile from our house and has studio classes, enormous indoor track, large gym, lap pools and an indoor lazy river/waterslides for the kids!) in addition to lots of kids nature, cooking, language classes etc. It’s unbelievable. But every time I go the only thing I want to do is walk on the track. Probably because we can’t walk anywhere from our home (no sidewalks) but I can’t stand the gym equipment. The kids really do love the playroom and I love the feeling after a good 2 mile walk and some yoga stretches. What do you do at your gym? You’re so lucky to live in a place where you can walk!

      I once to get out of a rut used the 20-15-30-20-45-30-rest method that I read in a Brazilian website ages ago and it worked for me! Basically you compromise to exercise that amount of minutes: 20min on the first day then 15min on the second etc and rest on the last day then repeat the next weeks. I think the breakdown of time helped me to commit when exercise was not part of my habits! In two months I was already exercising 1hour a day but it was important for me (and my sciatic pain!) to start small!

    I was so interested in that silk club, but I’m having a hard time imagining what we would use them for.

    Love your links as always, just getting into the Seeing White podcast, thanks for the rec! 😀

    I discovered those silks because of your blog. Just ordered my season of silks for my almost 1 year old. I save up for months last year to be able to get them. I’m so so excited!
