wintry utility shirt jackets, flannels, etc. with tradlands | reading my tea leaves

This post is sponsored by Tradlands, a women’s clothing brand specializing in menswear-inspired staples for women.

Just in time for cold weather, a post with Tradlands to showcase what they’re doing to keep folks cozy this winter, plus a quick note to say that since it’s Giving Tuesday, we’re doing a little something different this time around. In addition to offering readers a discount on all of the beautiful shirts Tradlands has in stock, the company will be giving 25% of proceeds generated through this post directly to charity. (Details on all that below.)

Committed as ever to making American-made and menswear-inspired clothes for women, Tradlands launched four new utility shirt jackets for this winter (along with a slew of cozy flannels and beloved sweatshirts). The Haines Utility Shirt Jacket I’m wearing above is a classic woolen coat in neutral shades of oatmeal, gray, and black. It’s roomy enough to layer over sweaters or sweatshirts, but slim enough to fit comfortably underneath a heavier parka for when those winter storms roll in. wintry utility shirt jackets, flannels, etc. with tradlands | reading my tea leaves

The Haines is cut from a thick wool blend (69% Wool, 28% Poly, 3% Nylon) and sewn in the United States. You might think of these as your grandpa’s well-loved utility jacket, tailored to meet your needs. wintry utility shirt jackets, flannels, etc. with tradlands | reading my tea leaves

I layered it here with the Dogpatch flannel—a shirt that I think it’s safe to say is the very softest flannel I’ve worn to date. (Note: I sized up with these button ups to make them work over my pregnant belly—but they fit true to size!)

For folks who might be sensitive to wool, the Aspen Navy is a cozy alternative. It’s made from a heavy cotton-knit blend (98% cotton, 2% Lycra) that’s super warm without being too heavy.wintry utility shirt jackets, flannels, etc. with tradlands | reading my tea leaves

Like every made by Tradlands, the jackets are beautifully sewn and impeccably tailored. I love the thick seams and large buttons on these utility jackets.wintry utility shirt jackets, flannels, etc. with tradlands | reading my tea leaves

In this shot, I’m wearing the Navy Utility Shirt Jacket over the super-soft Bobbie, a classic button-down oxford shirt made from organic cotton. It’s a thinner weight than the flannel shirts, but similarly soft and comfortable. wintry utility shirt jackets, flannels, etc. with tradlands | reading my tea leaves

Here, I’m wearing the Aspen Grey Utility Shirt Jacket. Like the Aspen Navy, the utility jacket is cut from a thick cotton-blend and tailored to fit neatly, but not too snugly. wintry utility shirt jackets, flannels, etc. with tradlands | reading my tea leaves

I’m wearing my jacket over the Ava tee in the beautiful Brunswick green. (Here again, I sized up to fit my belly, but the tees fit true to size!)

And because today is #GivingTuesday, Tradlands has decided that in addition to offering RMTL readers a discount, they’re giving 25% of all proceeds generated from this post to The Center for Constitutional Rights, a nonprofit legal and educational organization dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Issues the CCR actively fights against include abusive immigration practices, corporate human rights abuses, discriminatory policing and profiling, LGBTQI persecution, racial injustice, sexual and gender-based violence, as well as torture and war crimes.

The hellowinter discount code and donation period both end at midnight PST on December 25, 2016.

Do you have a source for your maternity jeans? (are they maternity?)

They are maternity! My mom got them for me at J.Crew when I was pregnant with Faye, I cut off the bottoms myself. Not sure they’re still in stock!

As always, lovely presentation! Warms the heart to see companies also engaging. Beautiful partnership. Echoing many comments on previous blog posts, your blog has been inspiring and a much needed antidote these days. Thank you for your thoughtful words. And your intentionality.

Beautiful! I so often steal my husbands clothes. You’re looking so fantastic by the way. I just wanted to ask where your shoes are from? I miss my old chucks so much but for ethical reasons I just can’t bring myself to buy them anymore…

Thank you! I *know* re: the chucks. I really miss mine. These are PF Flyers. This specific pair is not made in the US, but the company has a men’s line that is and so I decided to support them. Not a perfect solution. Still waiting on a truly ethical replacement!

Veja! It’s a French company. They’re the best ethical, sustainable, environmentally friendly source for sneakers that I’ve found. I love the white Esplars.

Oh, I know they’re great. But not really a replacement design-wise for Converse!

How about Etiko? They are fair trade and vegan. http://etiko.com.au/white-hitops/

Seems they are for preorder. Perhaps this is to mitigate wasteful production? Anyway, they seem like a good company. Better than the alternative, at any rate.

Ahh I love them! I just bought The Boulder and I’m obsessed. It’s so soft and comfortable, and doesn’t look like anything anyone else owns!

PS: You’re looking absolutely beautiful! Love this shoot.

Would you be willing to share the source for your bracelet? I love its simplicity.

My mom had my bracelet made by a local jewelry maker. It’s cast in bronze and has notches that represent my birthday!

Erin, Do you know of any places for button downs similar to Tradlands for men/boys? My son is 13 and would refuse to wear a girls shirt, but I would love to find a source that is more sustainable than J Crew for shirts for him for Christmas. He’s outgrown everything!!

Hi Erin! Thinking of ordering the Aspen but trying to decide between xs and xxs.. What size are you wearing? Would you say it runs true to size? Thanks!

Hi Kris; In all honestly, I have a bit of trouble with the question of “true to size.” I’ve never been someone who’s able to know just by reading a tag that something will fit me! I’m wearing the XS here, but I’m also eight months pregnant! If I were you I might consider ordering both sizes and taking advantage of the free returns once you’ve had a chance to try them on!

Ok, that’s helpful.. Thank you! I think you’re right about just going ahead and ordering both.

Thanks to you I can never get enough of Tradlands. I have a few of my boyfriends shirts and i love that theyre a bit longer for when im wearing leggings. But when i want that boyfriend look but slightly tailored tradlands are my go to. I just recieved the yukon and the dog patch. If anyone is confused about sizing im a 34 b 140 lbs 5’3 and got a medium. I love your minimalist serious and its inspired me to donate/ sell/ give away what i havent used, and stick to what i love. Do you have any recommmendations for winter shoes? Or shoes in general? I live in NYC and im sure youve realized the weather lately has been all over the place. Would youconsidering another minimal wardrobe post maybe on winter shoes?
