make-believe: reading nook.

January 21, 2016

make-believe: simple matters reading nookAt the risk of too much navel-gazing, it’s been a really lovely week of finding that my book has made its way into so many of your homes. I’ve said this already, but more than a week later, I’m no less touched to see your posts crop up on Instagram, or Facebook, or in emails sent directly to me. It’s such an incredible honor to see Simple Matters in your spaces. It’s funny, too, to see how you’ve been cozying up to read. Some of you have been nuzzled next to a favorite human, or pooch, or other furry thing! Other times, there’s been a mug of warm something or other nearby. There have been green things, and candles and many too many beautiful wooden tables to count.

Thank you for sharing.

Here’s a make-believe collage to celebrate my very favorite hashtag. Neutral-colored reading nook, not required of course, but here’s my stab at dreaming up a few favorite things to recreate your collective nooks:

+ A copy of Simple Matters for reading.

+ A candle for smelling good.

+ A blanket for snuggling with.

+ A mug for drinking something warm.

+ A lamp for light to read by.

+ A plant for greening things up a bit.

+ A sweatshirt for being cozy in.

+ A little cheese plate for snacking.

PS. To all of my beloved international readers, never you fear: books are coming! In this week’s episode of Things I Didn’t Know Before Writing a Book,  I realized that Simple Matters wasn’t actually released on the 12th the world over. Who knew? But it is coming! Thanks so much for being patient!

I couldn’t wait – I ordered and read the kindle version (I live in Luxembourg). It’s inspiring (like your blog) and I’ve ordered a hard copy for my twin sister who lives in nyc.

i have to say that we are part of your book-induced cozying trend… i’ve been snuggled in bed with my 11-year-old son ~ he’s reading calvin & hobbes, i’m reading simple matters. once he falls asleep, i start quietly clearing the clutter. i’m creating a bit more calm each night. it’s pretty perfect.

Little reading, little decluttering, little reading, little decluttering. Yay!

I got your book two days ago and kept saying to myself “Okay, I’m going to read this slowly and savor it.” Nope – finished it this morning. It was beautiful and I couldn’t put it down!

I received it on the 13th, here in Canada. Fabulous book, Erin. Congratulations!

Decided to get the kindle-version while I wait for it to make its way to Sweden.. We have family in the us that will send it, but who can wait that long? Not me. Thank you for such an inspiring blog! My sons father and I just ended a 9-year long relationship and I found your blog shortly after (from cup of jo) and it sounds maybe a bit dramatic but it’s just what I need to clean out and start fresh. That and wine. 😉

My copy arrived here in the UK about a week ago. I was away but it was lovely knowing it was here waiting for me and I am looking forward to cosying up as soon as possible to read it. If only people will leave me alone long enough to get on with it!

I’m so glad you liked the photo of your book with Darwin! I found him nuzzling his mouth against the corner of it this morning. Its a big hit in our house 🙂

I’m not sure where I saw your book mentioned, a blog or instagram, or something. I was able to pick it up yesterday at the library and I adore it. Yes, I am sitting in my wingback with my tea and candles on my table next to me delighting in it. I even wandered around for awhile out back and trimmed some branches from my fruit trees to try and force the blossoms.

Hi Erin! You’d be happy to know that I was able to purchase ‘Simple Matters’ at our neighborhood bookstore.. and I live in the Philippines! 🙂 We’ve just moved into our own tiny home south of Manila, a 35sqm condo unit – me, my husband, and our 11 year old. I enjoyed your book immensely; loved the photos, picked up quite a few nuggets of information, and affirmed some truths on living purposefully and holistically. Now it’s time to enjoy your blog which I have recently discovered as well!

Hi Erin! I devoured your book in 3 days and am re-reading my favorite parts now. I love it. I am so inspired – I can put all of your advice to great use when we move house in May. I live in London, UK and I found my lovely copy at Anthropologie. I am just now discovering your blog and it is like a massive bonus to my new favorite book. I want to gift it to everyone in my life! Thanks for your words and your spirit. xo

So, so glad to hear that! Thanks so much for your note!

Found your blog and have been devouring it daily. Love your words, photos, and your writing style so much that I had to pick up a copy of your new book. It is really wonderful. Even at my age – early sixties, I am embracing change and ready to de clutter and live more simply. Tulips in a jar, tea with milk next to me, and of course knitting is in my lap. Simplicity at its best. Thank you Erin for inspiring me!

I found your book by chance in Foyles book shop and it chimed so perfectly with the way I had been thinking that I simply had to buy it! Thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the recipes!
