my week in objects (mostly).

December 4, 2015

five little things that made my week:

1. this little bird hook.

{rescued from the top of the closet. just needs a fresh coat of paint and a few drywall anchors.}

2. this book.

{because an advance copy arrived to my house this week. ps. preorder this weekend if you want to make sure you receive a print in time for christmas!}

3. this lightbulb.

{because we rearranged a bunch of bulbs. a tiny exercise in homemaking which made for an overall brighter apartment come 4:00 pm.}

4. this bit of pine.

{because wintry window boxes deserve a little something festive too.}

5. these stories.

{because my mom brought a bagful of christmassy ones with her on the train for faye-girl.}

other things:

whale fall.
the art of subway bacteria.
do the work.
the trouble with the word ‘freelancer’.
humanity.
socks make *great* gift. here’s proof.

2016 is looking promising.

    So if we pre-ordered your book by this weekend we’ll get it by Christmas?? I hope so!

      Hi there! That’d be fun, but the book doesn’t come out until January! If you preorder by this weekend, and enter your name in the online form, you’ll receive a print to save or share by Christmas!

    Freelancer…. I was reading and saying no, no , no, I don’t agree, until I read how now Tim Dietrich introduces himself.
    The slinky is my favorite!

    Socks!!! I’ve been thinking of emailing to find out if you’ve written about them in the past, or plan to in the future. Interested to get your minimalist take on them, especially since you must live in closed toe shoes for much of the year. Had fun looking through the different options! (Why are the ones I like always sold out?!)

    What a range of other things items. I do not understand the thread among the pieces you highlighted fully. Imagine it is something like witnessing suffering, valuing ouselves, helps to increase our humanity and look optimistically to the future while wearing comfortable socks.

      No thread! Just the usual list of things I’ve been reading and noticing and generally thinking about.

    Oh, I love “The Snowman”! I have a tiny old copy tucked into my box of Christmas decorations. Kind of a memento mori, I guess, but so touching.

    Hi Erin! I put your book on my gift guide, so fingers crossed I get it. I think your blog is fantastic and really appreciate the message you are sending out to everyone. I also think we might be from the same area in upstate New York. I think you should have a meet and greet. It would be so wonderful to meet you in person!

    This is one of my favorite posts to look forward to at the end of the week! And more, it included a tid bit about your book and newsletter, which was exciting! I read the newsletter this morning and loved everything about it, as always. Thank you for your honesty and for the light that you spread in this time of (lots of) darkness. It’s always wonderful to pop over here and know that there will be something positive, fun, and/or uplifting written and shared. Thanks again, Erin!

    Yay, your book’s coming out soon! I look forward to reading it. And I think I asked you this already, but your book will also be available as an e-book on Kindle/Nook, right?
