make-believe: pumpkin picking.

make-believe: pumpkin picking | reading my tea leaves
I’m not sure that I’m gonna find myself in a bona fide pumpkin patch this fall, so just in case, I’m playing a little make-believe and daydreaming about a citified take on the classic autumnal excursion. No need to question whether your shoes are sensible enough for navigating fields of pumpkin vines if you’re stalking a city patch.

Mostly what I’m dreaming about is a day away from business as usual. Plus cider donuts. Lots of cider donuts.

A solid jean jacket for keeping the chill at bay.

A cream-colored clutch for stowing dollar bills and donuts.

A new book for devouring on the trip.

A roomy coverall for covering a pumpkin-shaped belly.

A fancy bra and matching undies because even if the outfit is simple, the underneath things don’t have to be.

seated lady and a girls pennant pin because jean jackets were made to be adorned with pins.

A cold-weather fragrance for setting the mood.

A pair of clogs with a little fringe for staying just this side of fancy.

Ooh, I have my eye on that jacket! Have you tried it and can attest to its quality?

Haven’t tried it! But it sure looks beautiful!

Have you by chance tried that Olo fragrance yet? I recently ordered some samples of theirs trying to find a nice fall/winter scent, but I didn’t try that one!

I love your style and dreamy lingerie/ clothing links… just wish some of it was a little more affordable. Thanks for the day dreams though! Virtual window shopping is good too ;-).

Hey Chelsea, Thanks for your note. Understood that some of these finds fall into category of make-believe—window shopping highly encouraged! But I also think it’s worth noting that they’re also sourced from shops and businesses working really hard to make high-quality, sustainable, and ethical products. And that often that same attention to detail and ethics means higher costs, both for production and consumer!

Have you seen Emma Watson on Instagram at all? In every photo she mentions the sustainable, responsible clothing she is wearing and the companies she bought from. While I have not yet looked into any–I usually assume her clothes come with movie star price tags– I bet there are some great make-believe leads in there! And I love that she uses her money and her platform to support these kinds of businesses. Also, her feminist book club has been a delight, some amazing reads.

BRYR clogs are on my make-believe list for spring/summer (australia)! i’m looking into a one hit purchase of a small collection of items that mix and match for my simple spring summer wardrobe – still dreaming and researching to find the *exact* right items before purchasing. the idea is to find thoughtful products that will last for years to come, so once i’ve purchased these items, there will be no more clothes shopping until autumn/winter next year.

I read commonwealth the day it came out — loved it! My book club is discussing it tomorrow night. Very different than any of her other stuff but you should read it!

Erin, Totally understood. You inspire me to find more locally sourced items as much as I can and I appreciate that. Thank you!

Erin, have you read Commonwealth? If not, I would highly recommend it! It’s one of my favorite books this year and definitely a perfect fall read. Great choice for this post 😉

Hello Erin. You are near NYC, correct? If you are able to make it out toward Queens, there IS a bona fide pumpkin patch at Queens County Farm Museum. Hope you can enjoy 🙂

Yes! In NYC! Would love to make it out there!

Here is a link to their site:

Their “Hours and Directions” section show how accessible the farm is!
