simple matters, out on shelves.

simple matters by erin boyle | reading my tea leavesI’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do today. Reread my book? Sleep late and eat bon-bons and luxuriate in the fact that today is the day that you get to read it? Call up all of my friends and harangue them about whether their copy has arrived? Ask them to do a slow drive-by of the neighborhood bookstore and see if they can catch a glimpse of Simple Matters there?

Sounds like a plan if ever there was one.

Simple Matters is on my shelf. Maybe it’s on yours too. Or hanging out on the shelves of a bookstore near you. Maybe it’s mid-flight, wrapped up and bouncing around in the back of a truck or the belly of a plane, crossing the sea to land on your doorstep. Soon, soon. It’s tremendous, really. The process of writing a book exists in an old-fashioned realm that’s more or less entirely without instant gratification. But the release of the book? The hashtags and emails and photos snapped on phones? Well, that’s some of the best kind of instant gratification there is. I’m so grateful for your enthusiasm. So tickled to have you reading. So relieved that the wait is over.simple matters by erin boyle | reading my tea leavesIf you have a copy in your hands already, I’d just about die of happiness to see it in your space. You can use the #simplemattersbook hashtag to share it on Instagram.simple matters by erin boyle | reading my tea leavesOnce you’ve dug in and if you enjoy what’s on the page, it would be incredible to have you lend your voice in an Amazon review.simple matters by erin boyle | reading my tea leavesAnd if you want to celebrate, I’ll be doing a book reading on Friday at Book Court in Brooklyn, and another in my hometown—Madison, Connecticut—on Saturday afternoon. There will be wine and hugs. Details here.

And from the bottom of my fluttering heart, thank you.

How exciting! I just bought a copy on Amazon so it should be here in a couple days! I only just recently found your blog and am so inspired by the simplicity and beauty within it. I’ve just started my own blog and take heavy inspiration from you and Un-Fancy.

I want to simplify every aspect of my life from my closet to my home to my mindset… I love that I found your blog eons before I consider starting my own family and that I can prepare way ahead of time and grow along side your wisdom. Anyways, thanks, Erin.

You have contributed immensely to the simplification and peace in my life.

    Dear Erin,

I got my copy yesterday! I don’t use Instagram, but if I did, you’d see your book on my nightstand in our home in Lincoln, MA. First if all, it’s beautiful– both the design and the photography. Secondly, I’ve picked it up to skim it a few times; this is going to be one of those books I will have present on my stack for a while so I can read carefully, reflect and repeat. Thank you for a lovely book and congratulations on getting your dreams onto paper and into the world.

My copy arrived last night from Amazon and I’m already half way through! I’ve really become your fan girl- I love your ideas and writing and way of seeing the world! I do have two thoughts for you that I would love to get your take on at some point-
    1. What do you do when your living partner (in my case, boyfriend) does not think this way and accumulates things wherever he goes? And does not get why we shouldn’t just keep 100 mugs in the cabinet?
    2. Please consider doing a reading in Washington, DC!

Eh, ditch ’em. (JUST KIDDING!) It can definitely be a challenge. I think I’ll work on tackling it in a post soon! Thanks so much for your kind words! xoxoxo!

Ditto to the partner=100 mugs (and whyy do they all have dragons on them??!) ! Would love your input. It has been a long, slow, delicate journey changing his mindset. But I know it is possible!! My copy is supposed to arrive today. I’ve checked my mailbox 4 times already, ha! Looking forward to tonight when I can kick my feet up with your book and a big cup of coffee! Congrats!! You’ve got to be ridiculously excited today!

Ditto to the ditto – except for me, it isn’t just mugs, it’s EVERYTHING. 100 bars of soap (I’m not kidding), stockpiled because they’re the ones we like. 10 boxes of auctioned “contents unknown” stacked up in a closet (reason: unknown). Gift wrap, and buttons, and linens, and entire collections of cashmere sweaters (38 at last count).
We compromised on dishes and switch out our six (yes, six) sets of dishes ‘seasonally’ – so we have Winter dishes, and Spring dishes, and Summer dishes, and Fall dishes, and Hallowe’en dishes, and Christmas dishes. This means the cupboards only ever contend with one set, but he feels like there’s always something new and fun.
But oh, to just cut down a little bit…
For now, I live vicariously through your blog. I’d love to hear your thoughts!!

I am looking forward to purchasing and reading your book! How is the kindle book format? I prefer ebooks but a lot of times the formatting is all over the place and I wouldn’t want to experience this with yours especially since it seems like others are saying the photography and rest of the book is beautiful. Thank you!

Honestly: I haven’t seen it and I’m not an e-book reader so I can’t say that I could anticipate what it might look like! Will see if I can get any intel, but if you’re worried about it, I’d say maybe the hardcover is the way to go 😉

And there is also much to encourage/nudge people toward beginning to think differently about how to live life. A beautiful, beautiful book. I ordered a copy for my newlywed daughter and son-in-law, and I will be re-reading and referring to my copy for a long time to come. Thank you for all your hard work!

My copy came yesterday and I’m taking my time savoring it. It’s my dream someday to be a professional organizer/counselor and help people simplify their lives. As a part of that I want a small library of books to lend out to clients to inspire them on their journey. I believe this book will be a great inspiration and if I ever do start my business I might need a second copy since I don’t want to part with my own.

    Hi Erin,
I just finished reading your book. First, congratulations! Also, I wanted to thank you for being so generous with your expertise, and writing a book that feels like a real and lasting resource. I’m a minimalist myself, but there are days when, as an artist- and self-employed person, it can almost feel like I’m in a self-deprivation mindset . Reading your book helped me to remember not just to pare it down, but to pare it down beautifully, with grace, spark and joy. To make discoveries. I am feeling so inspired to become more creative and more aesthetic in my minimalism, after reading your ideas. Thank you. : ) My Best, Susan
