lobster beer road frontdoor mandolin banjo bats baseball hats oysterriver clothesline table evening breakfast blackeyedsusans grapevines prints lake dinner

last week, there were all the best things. our friend ian invited us to his family’s home in mid-coast maine. we spent two days drinking our friends’ wine and making up silly songs. there was a freshly mowed baseball diamond and an outfield for picking blueberries and scratching at mosquito bites, a barn stuffed with treasures found in old chairs and lemonade stand signs, a banjo and a mandolin and an ipod plugged into an 8-track, oysters and lobster and a make-shift table for fitting all the merry-makers. and more fireflies than i’ve ever seen.
it feels selfish now, this ache to go back. but i’d give anything to be there now.

This looks like the most incredible few days. I'm very envious (and don't think you're at all selfish for wishing to be back there). I cannot wait for it to be summer down under! Until then, I'm living vicariously through all you northern hemisphere folk and the wondrous trips you go on like this šŸ™‚ Rhi xx

Ack, you've got me all homesick for New England now. Love how you captured the spirit of Maine in all of her loveliness. I'm plotting how to get T to agree to move there (right now, he's all "it's too far away from the rest of civilization way up there." Ha.).

Oh, no I don't think it's selfish! Your photos are beautiful, and I can't believe you saw so many fireflies! I've only ever seen about two in my life, I've always wanted to see loads in one place – though having said that, seeing them in the day without their bums all lit up kind of freaks me out, they're funny looking.xx

I'm feeling hungry after seeing those lobsters !!

I know a place where you can be guided by the light of the fireflies (you do not need a lantern!). In the middle of Brazil. It was just stunning.

What wonderful photos of my homestate. I can feel the laidback energy that we have here through all of them. I'm very thankful that I wake up everyday to a Maine sunrise washing over a gorgeous view of a nature preserve saltmarsh and retire each night to loads of fireflies blinking off and on over our "south 40" after a colorful sunset that lights the marsh on fire. I know so many think we are too removed from civilization, but I wouldn't trade this for asphalt and cars and tall buildings. And the local area plus the power of the internet brings me all that I need. Thankful that the misconception keeps our population down! šŸ˜‰
